The things I learn about writing....

When I set up this blog, one thing I never considered was what I actually intended to post on it. I signed up because I wanted to post a comment on someone else's blog. Then I was offered a blog of my own. Why not? I thought, but clearly nothing beyond that original question! I didn't even know what a 'blog' was, for hades sake!
Once I had it, I thought maybe I should do something with it. I played with the design. I downloaded some free software to make the blog heading. I found some artwork to put on it, along with parts of my book, and then that was it. The blog sat there, looking quite attractive I thought, but not really doing anything. Then I was introduced to other forms of social media. I ended up on Twitter - again, not a clue about how it worked or what it was really for. I had a Facebook page already, and I gradually figured out the intricacies of feeding blog posts to the page, though more by luck than judgement.
Then a friend kindly took me through Hootsuite. Suddenly, it all seemed to make sense. I don't always remember to put the tags on, and quite often it dislikes me trying to post to several networks at once, but I could link everything up and even schedule posts. Wow! This was fun!
I'm not a technophile - did that come over? I scrape my way through computer stuff by the skin of my teeth and advice from more knowledgeable friends. But I'm loving what I can do with what I know.
And I've veered away from the point I wanted to post, by about a light-year or two. OK, the main thing I learnt about writing today? That it is virtually impossible to write a romantic scene between my two main characters with a smelly, wriggly two-year-old in my lap. Just had to share....

  3. Me too! I was so lost when I started my blog I had to have my husband help me post. It was six months before I got a follower or a comment!
