Title: The Flame Master’s Chronicles (Ailith’s Quest)
Author:  S.L. Winchester
Publisher: Wild Child Publishing    .
Length:   Novel
Sub-GenresFantasy

BLURB:
The Flame Master's Chronicles is an epic tale filled with magic, flame-filled battles, and head-spinning adventures as a young woman assumes the mantle of a Flame Master and builds an army to retake her homeland from the evil denizens of another continuum.
EXCERPT:
Tall ice-capped mountains loomed in the distance. Towering trees formed a forest unlike any she had seen before. Where brambles and thorny brush often blocked the way for travelers in Sea Crest, this carefully tended place provided space for each tree to grow to full maturity. Judicious pruning allowed the raptors unhindered access along wooded paths. A winding trail led to mountain caverns, where the Gwyrs dwelled.
The immense Gwyr falcon led her into one of the larger caves. Ailith briefly paused allowing her eyes to aqdjust to the dim light of the tunnel. The cool dry breeze lifted the fragrance of fresh pine needles into the air. Small globes of some kind of iridescense she had never seen before lit the passage. The raptor approached a large door and waved a talon for Ailith to pass.
The Ancient One awaits you.
Ailith pushed open the door. Runes decorated the graceful stalactites, which descended from the ceiling like streamers of white stone. A fire pit stood in the center of the room where an emerald Gwyr stood watching her approach. Ailith walked forward and stood quietly, waiting for the raptor to speak.
You honor us by your appearance.
Ailith bowed her head. The honor is mine.
The mage said you are ready.
Ailith frowned. I know not of what he speaks. A prime mage told me I needed to be awakened, but I don't understand, for I do not sleep.
The Gwyr chuckled. You humans are so attached to your bodies. Yet there is much more to your nature, which you keep restrained.
So a certain Son of Bayard has told me. Ailith replied.
Ah, yes. the horse you call Eclipse. He is wise among his kind and a good friend to you.
I am blessed by many whom I call friend.
The Gwyr nodded. You also have many enemies, young human. The Gwyr of Mevilore has named you. You are in grave danger.
I have faced her, Ancient one. I do not hear her.
It is unwise to dismiss the evil she embodies, the Gwyr warned. She is more powerful than you think. Guntha is bound only by the Wizard Baelvien's manipulations.
Ailith frowned. I am aware of Baelvien and the Gwyr. Are there others I must be wary of?
We cannot speak his name, lest he find his way to this place and ensnare us as he did the black one. You shall know him once you face him. Now come to me, young mage, and I shall open thine eyes.
Ailith stood quietly as the emerald Gwyr enveloped her with immense wings. Quelling a small tremor of fear, she felt the raptor's soft under-feathers settle on her shoulders, its love and deep respect filled her. A rush of energy poured through her, then she slipped into a deep sleep.
Slowly opening her eyes, Ailith saw Rhysed reading aloud in an unknown tongue. Opening her mouth to speak, she suddenly remembered his command to remain silent.
The mage slowly closed the book and laid it on the desk before him. "You may now speak."
"I'm sorry I dozed off on you," she sheepishly replied.
Rhysed walked to her side. "Did you have a good dream?"
"Yes. I was most reluctant to awaken from such pleasant dreams of a quiet land, filled with Gwyrs of the most beautiful hues I have ever seen. If only the world could be like the one of my dream."
"A wish we both hope for, but it is not to be. At least not yet." Rhysed replaced the tome on the shelf. "You've received the means to defeat your enemies. The power and will to fulfill your destiny must now come from you. Your companions have been informed and will join you in the courtyard."
Ailith rose. "I feel I know so little and have so much more to learn. Why is there such haste?"
Rhysed ran a strong but gentle hand across her cheek. "Evil has no sense of time. Your duty calls. Do not feel bereft, Ailith. Your strength is great, and you have many friends of whom you are not yet aware. Do not lose hope."
