Oh Stupid Heart by Liza O'Connor - Guest Post and #giveaway

Today, I am here to answer as an expert whether some CEOs act unprofessionally and yell at their people?

For many who have worked one on one with CEOs, the question is laughable. Yet, there are those who believe a CEO remains calm and steady.

I’ve worked closely with four CEO’s.
Two were certifiably crazy. One was a dim bulb, the other a smart bulb.
(One of those crazy CEOs became our Secretary of Defense for a time)
Another of the four CEOs seemed a bit psychotic. He was always insisting someone at the table wouldn’t come out alive from the meeting, but other than the constant death threats, he seemed rational and intelligent. (He’s in charge of major car company now.)
The final one was sane, highly intelligent and even tempered. (So naturally, the board got rid of him in short order.)
Therefore, when comparing Trent to the real CEOs I’ve dealt with, I have to say, Trent actually seems well-behaved.
But let’s compare him to Space CEO’s.

First: Captain James Kirk. I know, he wasn’t a CEO, but he ran a ship, so he’s the equivalent of a CEO.

Okay, Trent lost this contest by space light years. But for the record, so did the four real CEO’s. Even the nice, sane one wasn’t this riveting and compelling.

Now this one of Kirk is right up there with the two crazy CEOs I had.

And back on earth, here’s Steve Ballmer of Microsoft, Harvard grad, behaving like he got into Carrie’s narcotic turtles before arriving on stage

So what have we learned today?
CEO’S BEHAVE BADLY
Because they can.
And being crazy keeps your people on their toes.

Now that I’ve confirmed Trent’s behavior is NOT ABNORMAL for an Earth CEO, but is far less than Kirk’s, even on a good day,  let’s check out the second book of A Long Road to Love.

Oh Stupid Heart

Book Two of: A Long Road To Love
Humorous Contemporary Disaster Romance

Blurb:
Carrie Hanson is in love with a different species: Trent, a pampered, uber-rich socialite who’s also her boss. Everyone keeps telling her it’s a train wreck looking to happen, but her heart wants what it wants. So despite the billion and one reasons not to, Carrie commits to this inter-species relationship. But while she's off being trained for her new job responsibilities, a beautiful ex fiancĂ©e is working hard to get Trent back and Carrie fired.

Excerpt:

Carrie glanced up at Trent. “Can I have one of your business cards?”
He handed one over, curious why Carrie wanted it. She flipped it over and wrote, These bills were given to Miss Claire as an act of charity. They are hers to spend.
She handed Trent the card. “Sign it, please.”
He signed the card and Carrie presented it to the old woman.
Her eyes rounded as she read it. “You know my name.”
“We’ve talked before.”
“Right. You’re the nice girl who pointed out how much cheaper it would be for me to buy a monthly card instead of paying the daily rate. I appreciated your advice. I’ve been able to buy better food and even had money saved up so, when I got sick, I could get well enough to keep working.” She patted Carrie’s arm. “I’m glad you got yourself a good man. You deserve it.”
Carrie glanced up at him and smiled. “He is a good man.”
She whispered in the old woman’s ear. Whatever she said cause the woman’s forehead to furrow.
She thrust the bills into Carrie’s hand. “I appreciate the thought, but I can’t take your money. But thank you both. You’re good people, and the world could use more like you.”
To his shock, Carrie didn’t argue. She only hugged the woman. “You are good people, too.”
Half the crowded train watched the fiasco. Great! Not only had the old woman rejected his act of charity, but a mob of commuters had witnessed his failed attempt at being a “good person.” His grandmother had to be thrashing in her grave.

  3. Liza - I love Trent (even when he's throwing a hissy fit) But it's good to know he's not alone in his asshatery. It makes him more real. :)

You too Nancy, thanks for tweet.

Kary, I'm glad you love Trent. Book two is your book. Some say Trent isn't real, but I think what they dislike is that he is real. Or they just hang with a better crowd that I do.

  8. Thank you Andrea!! I knew it was statistically unlikely that I have the only 3 bad behaving CEO's in the world.

So I've now determined guys aren't as nice in real life as they are in romance novels and CEO's which are mostly men are not as nice as they are normally portrayed in books. And yes there are women CEO's too. I've actually worked with two women bosses which went on to become CEO's for Fortune 500 companies. One was so horrible that I sold my stock in the company at once, and the other one was really good, but the company was broken beyond repair. So she got fired when she failed to repair it. But they had no relevance to my blog, so I left them out, or did until I wrote this comment. oh well...
