Six Sentence Sunday #70

Cover by Renee Rocco, Lyrical Press Inc.
Hello! *waves* Oh, my, it's the last #sixsunday snippet! I can't believe it! Sundays are going to seem pretty quiet without it. :(
So, a last six from my science fiction romance novel Keir, and previously my two main characters were getting up close and personal...

She touched a finger to his lips then lifted her tunic over her head, tossing the garment aside. Heat slammed into every nerve in his body. She wore nothing underneath. He reached out for her, brushing his fingers lightly down her arms. Afraid that somehow he might hurt her. Naked she seemed so small, so fragile.

Six Sentence Sunday #69

Hello! *waves* Welcome to another - and the penultimate - #sixsunday snippet. *gasp* So, before the end I thought I'd share a more intimate snippet between my two main characters, to tempt you back for the very last one next week. :-P

“Quin…” He could not find any words beyond her name. His hands traveled upward, caressing her back. Her skin felt like flame wrapped in velvet, and the pleasure he drew from it echoed in her thoughts and flowed back, augmenting his own.
The euphoria flickered for a moment and dimmed. Quin pushed him back gently, her hands on his chest.

Six Sentence Sunday #68

Cover by Renee Rocco, Lyrical Press Inc

Hello! Welcome to my #sixsunday snippet, and a huge thank you to everyone who stops by and comments. Another teaser from my science fiction romance Keir for you, and I thought I'd give you a better look at my hero...if the cover isn't enough. :-P

For a moment, Quin stared. Shock blazed a hot trail through her veins. Oh, Hades, I never thought it would be human!
Now she understood the nickname given to him and how the legend had misled her into believing the Blue Demon might be the Sentiac. His bare torso was the rich blue of an evening sky, the long, unkempt hair a knot of black curls tangled at the nape of his neck. Deep black tattoos, resembling some form of runic lettering, were carved into every inch of his skin.

Six Sentence Sunday #67

Hello! *waves* Welcome to another #sixsunday snippet, and thanks to all who stop by and comment. I can't believe SSS ends this month. *sob* Doing SSS has taught me so much, done wonders for my confidence, and introduced me to so many talented authors. It'll be weird when it's gone!
So I'm going back to the book I started posting when I first joined - my debut release Keir. A slightly modified six (to fit in the limit), and my two main characters have been getting to grips with one another - literally!

“Nice move,” she said, a smile curving her lips.
“Thank you.”
Keir stared down at her for a moment. The sparring had added a warm flush to her skin. The heat and softness of her body beneath his crowded into his awareness. Even through the coarse fabric of their combat gear, he felt the rapid flutter of her heartbeat.

Six Sentence Sunday #66

Cover by Danielle Fine

Welcome to another #sixsunday post - thank you for your visit and any comments. I'm continuing with my latest release, a science fiction romance short - Terms & Condition Apply. Soren has corrected Marie's assumption that he's just a machine - more precisely a replica of a human with real memories. But his revelation that some avatars carry the persona of a criminal leaves her questioning further...

“Then what were you?”
He frowned and dropped his gaze. “I had a debilitating disease, one that was gradually crippling me. I was facing a slow, painful and humiliating death. My fiancĂ©e broke off our engagement so I chose voluntary euthanasia.” He paused and Marie, her chest tight at the pain in his words, leaned forward to touch her fingers to the back of his hand in silent sympathy.

Six Sunday Sunday #65

Hello! Welcome to another #sixsunday snippet and thanks for stopping by. I'm continuing with my sfr short story Terms & Conditions Apply - now available on Smashwords and Amazon - and Marie has just tried to give the avatar Soren his marching orders. But he wants to put her straight about her misconceptions over him first...

His comment sparked a sudden pang of guilt. “You mean you’re not just a machine?”
He gazed at her, as if considering the question. “We are artificial constructs, built to serve the AI, to be an extension of it and to ensure that everyone on Venus Ascendant is happy. But that doesn’t make us mere ciphers. Each of us carries memories from a real person, one who either chose this existence in preference to the many kinds of death they were facing, or as penance for a crime.”

Six Sentence Sunday #64

Welcome to this week's #sixsunday snippet
I'm continuing with my science fiction romance short Terms & Conditions Apply - I'm so excited to say it'll be out this week, yay! My female MC Marie has been whisked off to a bar by a male-form avatar - Soren - to await transport home, and despite its attempts to placate her, she's still resisting its obvious charms...

Cover by Danielle Fine

“Look, no offence, but your only purpose on this station is to please the clients, and while you’re doing a pretty good job of making me feel a little better, I just got dumped by the love of my life and I’m not up for some construct trying to have sex with me.” The words spilled out in a torrent, and she bit her lip as she finished.
“I see.” The easy smile that had graced his perfect lips faded for the first time. “You are one of those who believe that the AI’s sub-avatars are no more than programmed pleasure machines, solely for sex. That we have no personality—no feelings.”

Six Sentence Sunday #63

Cover by Danielle Fine
Hello! Welcome to another #sixsunday snippet and thanks to all who stop by and comment. Continuing with my upcoming sfr release Terms & Conditions Apply, and despite having found herself admiring the view while enjoying a cup of kavril, Marie is determined not to enjoy herself...

The heat of it through the glass seared her palms but she didn’t care. It gave her a distraction, albeit a painful one.
Soren made a sound of disapproval and drew her hands away from the glass. “Don’t damage yourself.”
She pulled herself free and curled her fingers against the stinging in her palms. “You have no right to touch me.”

Six Sentence Sunday #62

Hello, welcome to this week's #sixsunday snippet. I'm continuing with my upcoming sfr release - Terms & Conditions Apply - and having been persuaded to go for a drink by one of the resident avatars, Marie is enjoying the view...

Cover by Danielle Fine

His—its—smile deepened, and she found herself catching her breath.
Oh, please, she told herself, it’s not as if it’s a real man. Just a copy of one!
But what a gorgeous one, with all those sleek muscles bunching under the silver skinsuit and those waves of blond hair and those eyes…
Marie twitched, stopping her traitorous thoughts dead in their tracks as she seized her kavril. The heat of it through the glass seared her palms but she didn’t care.

Six Sentence Sunday #61

Hello! Welcome to another #sixsunday snippet. I'm continuing with my upcoming release Terms & Conditions Apply. Marie has been offered the services of one of the resident avatars, but she doesn't seem all that impressed despite its appearance...

Cover by Danielle Fine

This particular avatar had been crafted into a ruggedly handsome, if stereotypically human, male. Thick blond hair left a shade too long framed his face perfectly; darker brows arched over eyes the most glorious shade of deep blue she’d ever seen. He was broad shouldered and athletic, and the thin, snug-fitting one-piece in gray outlined the well-defined musculature of his torso in a way no doubt intended to draw attention and tease the imagination of potential clients. A shapely hint of what lay beneath without full disclosure, like the metallic foil used to cover chocolate treats. Also a complete contrast to the man she’d hoped to see, and all too perfect to be real.
“I don’t need your service, thank you very much.”

Six Sentence Sunday #59

Hello! Welcome to another #sixsunday post. I've been out of circulation for a while, and thought I'd return with a snippet of my up-coming release, a science fiction romance short story titled Terms & Conditions Apply. Be warned, there is bad language at the start as my female MC Marie isn't happy. Enjoy!

"Fuck you, Jaisen Ty-Reen!"
"Was that a statement of intent, or purely a curse?"
Marie jerked her gaze upward to meet that of the man before her, then reassessed her first thought. This was no normal man. Although the impossibly deep, almost indigo blue of his eyes held her, she noted the silvery sheen of his skintight one-piece with the logo VASA at the shoulder that marked him as one of Venus Ascendant’s subsidiary avatars. Her distress at Jaisen’s message had no doubt sparked the AI into an immediate response—that kind of emotional hit on its empathic sensors would not have been missed, although it was probably equivalent to no more than a poke in the eye.

Six Sentence Sunday #58

Hello! Welcome back to another #sixsunday snippet. I've been gone for a bit. Thank you to everyone who stops by and comments. Last time I left my two MCs discussing scars. Assassin Tyree is curious as to why her co-delegate has refused to have regenerative surgery to fix the scars from the last attempt on his life. D'joren is trying to explain...

“For one, I wish the Tier-vane to see what I have gone through in order to perpetuate the truce. Their society appreciates such gestures. And not that I would ever forget, but it reminds me each day why I have to keep going. Why I am here. Someone wanted the truce broken, and I will not permit that no matter what they may try. Lastly…”

Six Sentence Sunday #57

Hello! *waves* Welcome to another #sixsunday and thanks for stopping by. All comments are appreciated. I'm continuing with my sfr novella Tethered this week. For the first time assassin Tyree has met the human she's been assigned to protect and seen the scars left by a previous attempt on his life. But that's not all holding her attention...

Her pulse raced more ferociously than in the aftermath of euphoria, and she kept her fingers clenched tight. Concentrated her gaze on him, as she would if assessing a target. A broad, triangular face, but with a strong jawline. A cleft in his chin. Eyes dark brown, a shade she’d never seen before. “Couldn’t regenerative surgery fix--”

Six Sentence Sunday #56

Hello! Welcome to another #sixsunday post, and a big thank you to everyone who stops by and comments. I'm continuing with my sfr story Tethered this week. Genetically engineered assasin Tyree of the Su has just met the human she's been assigned to guard and work with. Having had no image of him, she's shocked when he reveals the scars left by a previous attempt on his life.

“Striking, aren’t they?” he said.
She forced herself to meet his gaze squarely, although the heat over her skin told her she was blushing like a scolded youngster. His voice reminded her of sweetened capprey: smooth, soothing, and yet with a hint of bitterness at its heart. Had he done this deliberately? To test her?
“Very striking,” she said, holding her tone steady.

Six Sentence Sunday #55

Hello! *waves* Welcome back to my #sixsunday post - it's been a while. Thanks to everyone who stops by and comments. This week I have a snippet of a current WIP called Tethered. Here, the female MC - a genetically engineered and specialized assassin - is having her first meeting with the human she's been assigned to protect and act as a co-delegate to. She's not too happy about it, but she's going to get a shock...

“Master D’joren,” she said briskly. “I am Tyree of the Su.”
His head rose and his eyes met hers. She gasped, her gaze snatched to the side of his face that he’d kept covered with his hand until now. Scars twined across his cheek and threaded into his hair. They had pulled the corner of his eye astray, one that was clearly cybernetic by the fine silver threads through the white.

Six Sentence Sunday #54

Welcome to another #sixsunday post. A huge  thank you to everyone who stops by each week and comments. I'm doing this via my phone so I apologize for any errors. Keir is finally available to buy! So here's another snippet for you. :)
This is from later in the story than last week. Cornered by villagers unhappy with Keir's presence on their lands, Quin sees her companion clearly for the first time...

Muted sunlight flashed from a blade in motion. Quin wriggled in panic, expecting a fatal strike on her companion's undefended back. Instead, the sound of ripping cloth filled the air as Caimen slashed the robes and rags into useless tatters, stripping Keir's head and back to reveal the so-called demon underneath.
For a moment, Quin stared. Shock blazed a hot trail through her veins. Oh, Hades, I never thought it would be human...
