The Final Front?

As promised, this is the final version of the book cover that I came up with using the new software. Sadly my trial has now expired; I would have liked a little more time to experiment with it, but my playtime is sadly limited, especially with the half-term holiday this week. I would say that with a bit of effort, some good resources and a familiarity with the software itself, you could create yourself a reasonably impressive book cover if you wish to self-publish. However, at the end of the day I did find the software slightly limited, at least in terms of what I was hoping to achieve. For example, this is the book cover for my friend's recently published fantasy novel, and I would love to be able to create something more like this:

Sadly, this software is not quite sophisticated enough, but as I said, with a free trial of it on offer it is worth giving it a try for yourself. Enjoy!

  3. It's a bit more eye-catching than the dark cover I think. But the current trend, at least in UK book shops, seems to be a black cover with an emblem or small picture, even for reprints such as Lord of the Rings. In terms of marketing - follow the trend or go for something different? To me, the black covers are smart, but when you look down a book shelf, it's hard to distinguish one from the other.
