On My Own - guest post by Angela Renee

Please welcome new author Angela Renee to the blog, with her debut release You Are Mine.

I don’t feel like giving up my age today, but when I was a child, the original Fame came out. For those of you who remember, Irene Cara sang this song titled Out Here On My Own. Two months or so ago when I realized my publishing date for my debut novel, You Are Mine, was quickly approaching and I had absolutely no online or offline presence, I thought that maybe I was biting off more than I could chew.

What to do, what to do?

You can write the greatest novel ever, but if no one knows about it… Well, you get the picture. I created a website and set up Twitter and Facebook accounts. Don’t tell anyone, but I wasn’t one for social media. We’ll keep that as our secret. But what else can a green author, such as myself, do? Having a Facebook, Twitter and Blog that no one knows about is just as bad as having a novel no one knows about. Hmmmm, what to do, what to do? I only had two months!

Where had the time gone? I’d had everything mapped out, including a marketing plan that started six months before the book was to be release. Note to self: Learn from this lesson and actually follow your plan next go around. I’m back <SMILE>. So there I was, the end of May and my novel was to come out early August. I’m an avid reader, so on my website I had included links to other authors’ sites. I saw a gold mine in there. Yep, I did it. I emailed just about every author listed on my website and asked if I could be a guest on their blogs.

Contrary to popular belief, authors aren’t unapproachable. I have a few author friends (they write in a different genre) and they had always been cool, but I thought that was because I’ve always known them. This was my first experience dealing with authors on a professional level. I quickly found that I am not out here on my own. That there is a community of authors willing to help each other. What a beautiful thing! I’m so glad the horror stories were not true. Now don’t get me wrong. One author I contacted sent me an extremely rude reply, but the others all said yes or no thanks.

There is a lot of negativity in the world, but I’ve always counted on the positive out there and make the best out of whatever the situation I find myself in. Which brings me to my debut novel You Are Mine.
Erica, the heroine, definitely finds herself in a situation that is unbelievable. She’s been transported to an alien spaceship! Okay, let’s be honest. What would you do if you woke to find yourself on a spaceship? Umm hmm, Erica freaks out also. After she finishes freaking out, she has to take action. She has to take the negatives and turn them into positives.

Here’s a little about my debut Sci-Fi Romance novel, You Are Mine. I hope you enjoy and please spread the word about it.

In the hundreds of special assignments Erica Morgan has worked, there was nothing that prepared her for waking one morning on an alien spaceship. More surprisingly, her captor and adversary, the leader of this mission, is the one man who could make her want to leave her home planet and embrace a different life.
D’Jarus Commodore doesn’t want a wife, but his planet is slowly dying, and their salvation lies in the people of Earth. As leader of Darien, he chooses to make a sacrifice and be the first to marry a terran. His captive bride, Erica, is like no other being he has ever met. At first sight he knows he must have her, but for obvious reasons—he did kidnap her after all—she resists him every step of the way.

I love the idea of turning a negative into a positive. Life loves to dole out the former and it's awesome when we can use it to our advantage! :-D
