New Release! Collision (Book 3 of the Prophecy series) by Lea Kirk #scifi #romance via @leakirkwrites

Collision, Book Three of the Prophecy Series

Long blurb:

A heart-rending loss…
Flora Bock will never forgive the Anferthian invaders for murdering her birth-parents. Growing up with the grandson of her sworn enemies is living a nightmare—until the day she sees him through the eyes of a young woman. But giving her heart to him is the ultimate betrayal of her parents’ memory.

A life in peril…
There are precious few places in the galaxy where Fander K’nil is safe. One look into Flora’s beautiful, hate-filled eyes is proof enough that Terr is not one of those places. He must keep her at a distance and stay alive long enough to fulfill his destiny. No matter what his heart desires.

An empire at stake…
Just as Fander and Flora begin to discover the depth of their feelings for each other, they are thrust into a deadly game of politics and assassination with an enemy who stops at nothing to stay in power. With the lives of everyone they love at risk, they must find a way to avert a new invasion before it’s too late—even if it means making the ultimate sacrifice.

Excerpt:

Fander gave Flora a grin. “Yes. But, here’s the difference. I intend to convince you to marry me.”

Gods, he loved seeing her cheeks turn pink. She took a half step back and raised her chin. “It’ll never work.”

“Pfft. So you say.”

She pointed toward the portal. “You remember what you did back there on my planet, right? You laid the groundwork for a civil war. Your people might, might, accept me as tangol because that bond is part of your culture, but as your wife? I’m a Terrian. Lots of them will hate me for that reason.”

“Once, you hated me for being Anferthian.”

She lowered her arm and blinked, twice. Three times. Four, five. If she had to think about it that long, then he almost had her. He stepped into her personal space and cupped his palm along her jaw. “But, you changed your mind, didn’t you?”

Her tongue darted over her lips. “You think we could change their minds?”

“I’d like to try.”

Blurb:
In the aftermath of the latest battle, the stakes are higher than ever before. Time’s hardly an ally to Nicholai’s army of paranormal soldiers. The Tomes remain hidden, and the clock is ticking for the Essenced poisoned with the demon’s incurable toxin.
Beyond those worries, magic might be vanishing—a twist that could insurmountably cripple the army’s capabilities prior to the war’s conclusion.
Never has the conflict felt so desperate, with danger escalating and hope disappearing with the slow drain of the hourglass.
Will the answers surface in time, or will the band of warriors fail to prevent the ruin of the world?

Excerpt:

She couldn’t deny that their story might soon end, but his promise of a lifetime sounded much better. So she nodded, clung to that vow, and closed her eyes. “We’ll survive this. But in case we don’t—”
“We will,” he countered.
“It’d still be worth it if we didn’t,” she insisted. “Demons can’t take over the world. But if we do die… Julius, you… I… We…”
“Sweetheart?” he interrupted with a tender smile. “I know. But we’re surviving. We’ll be stealthy. Like pirates.”
She sniffled. “Ninjas.”
He furrowed his brow and leaned back from her. “Ninjas?”
She rolled her tear-filled eyes, loving that he knew her well enough to let the conversation go in such a random direction. That distraction and the carefree banter were exactly what she needed in that moment.
“Yeah,” she said. “Ninjas. Pirates are riotous, which isn’t very stealthy. Even if they weren’t, ninjas are more awesome than pirates.”
He playfully narrowed his gaze. “We might have to break up now.”
“You can’t seriously think the other way. There aren’t giant, talking pirate turtles.” She wrinkled her nose and sighed. “Really, Julius. It’s just about considering the facts.”
He stared at her for several seconds until he finally laughed. “You really are crazy.” But we’ll have to continue this some other time. Your crystal’s almost ready.”

Glancing down at it, she tensed because of the nearness of their upcoming task, but forced herself to think on the good possibilities in front of her. “The war’s almost over. Our friends will be safe. Roxie will be safe.” Then she let her attention travel across the remainder of the hidden room, and a small smile formed on her lips.

About the Author:
Connie L. Smith spends a decent amount of time with her mind wandering in fictional places. She reads too much, likes to bake, and might forever be sad that she doesn’t have fairy wings. And that she can’t swing dance. Much of her preferred music is severely outdated, and as an adult she’s kind of obsessed with Power Rangers. She has her BA from Northern Kentucky University in Speech Communication and History (she doesn’t totally get the connection either), and her MA in English and Creative Writing.

As the demons near, the Essences rise…
AJ had never been particularly athletic or coordinated, so waking up to realize she suddenly has super-human strength is a massive, mind-shaking shock. Finding that she’s gained a stalker overnight is another mark in the unusual category, and when she discovers she’s always had the essence of a werewolf in her blood, her world all but shifts beneath her.
Demons, she’s told, are looming in the world’s future, and the only hope humanity has of surviving their arrival is if she and teenagers like her surrender their humanity to dive into their mythical essences. Fairies, dragons, dwarves, mermaids… The remnants of seventeen different fantasy species must come to life to save the lives of everyone.
Someway, an army of supernatural teenagers must prepare to meet the demons escaping from their dimensional banishment, or everything ends. Can these teens succeed and save the world?

Meet the #Author: JP Cawood #scifi #romance #interview

Please tell us a bit about yourself:
I’m originally from Milwaukee, WI and came out to Los Angeles to go to USC film school. I’ve worked in film and TV development for the last ten years and have sold series & pilots to Syfy Network, Lifetime Movie Network, Investigation Discovery, History Channel, and Destination America. Most recently, I created TLC’s hit show My Giant Life, which recently aired its second season. I’ve written and story consulted on screenplays in the past, but only recently decided to focus on writing books.

Tell us about Love from Mars:
Six people have been chosen to colonize Mars, including the charismatic and noble Ryan Clarke. Emma, a headstrong reporter, meets Ryan at the Martian Six press conference. Despite the fact that he has a one-way ticket to another planet, they can’t resist their undeniable connection. Their whirlwind romance is rocked by one shocking revelation after another as the mission prepares to launch. Can their love transcend space and time? Let the countdown begin…

What inspired you to write this particular story?:
The idea for Love from Mars came to me in a dream. It played out like an entire movie as I slept. When I woke up the next morning, I raced to write it down. As I sat down to write the book, I took my initial dream notes and fleshed them out into an outline. The story has definitely evolved and fleshed out from the initial dream, but the major elements were all there from the start. Working with beta readers has been helpful to further flesh out story beats that were weak or needed more development.

Please share a favourite snippet from your book:
My favourite part gives too many spoilers, so I’ve attached my second favorite excerpt J

“You’re witnessing history in the making, folks. In just a few minutes, the Martian Six will be revealed for all the world to see.” A well-dressed reporter spoke into the lens of a large news camera. Journalists from every outlet swarmed onto the lawn of the Man on Mars headquarters. Security guards lined the perimeter of the impressive industrial building, checking credentials as only the elite filed inside.
Emma raced her run-down sedan into the jammed parking lot, passed a “Lot Full” sign.
“Come on,” she mumbled as she scoured the area for a space to leave her car. Emma checked the clock for the millionth time, praying the numbers would somehow stop ticking away. She sped past a fire hydrant red zone and slammed on the brakes, causing her worn-out workbag to fall off the front seat. A blue credential badge flew out and onto the floor. She cranked the car in reverse and dipped into the illegal space. Emma grabbed her bag from the floor and booked it toward the front door. She pretended not to hear the meter maid calling after her. “Excuse me, you can’t park there.”
Emma’s petite heels pounded the pavement as she weaved past clusters of people loitering around the media event. She pushed her way to the front.
“Badge?” a security guard asked. She reached into her bag. The knot in her stomach rose to her throat as she searched for the blue lanyard she received only a half-hour before.
“No badge, no entry.”
“I have one, I swear,” she promised without taking her eyes from the contents of her tired workbag.
“Step aside, ma’am.”
“Please, I…”
The security guard waved on the next person in line. Accredited journalists pushed past, forcing Emma toward the fray.
Emma ran past the throngs of people, out onto the sidewalk, and toward the rear of the steel building. In the very back, a tall metal fence blocked an unguarded entrance. She took a deep breath and scaled the fence with her heeled feet. Emma struggled to pull herself up and over, but with true grit, she swung over the fence and climbed down the other side. She skipped over to the large steel door that stood between her and the story. It was locked.
“Damn it!” Frustration choked Emma from the inside as she paced in front of the barrier to entry.
“Can I help you?”
Emma looked up, startled. A man in his mid-twenties peered out from around a dumpster.
“Can you let me in?” she asked.
“What’s the magic password?” he asked with a smile.
“Look, I don’t have time for this. I’m from the Sentinel. I have a badge, but it’s gone. I’m usually super organized, but my boss gave me this assignment at the last minute because the senior reporter called in sick. Will you please just let me in?”
“Sure. Anyone willing to scale a fence in those shoes deserves to be let inside.”
***
Which comes first for you – a character's looks, personality or name?:
Usually their personality comes to mind first. I think about their wants, needs and desires. Names are the hardest, that typically comes last and changes often.

Any tips for aspiring authors?:
Think about the stories you want to tell. Once you feel compelled to focus on one story, an outline is a great way to get your ideas on paper. I sometimes use notecards before a paper outline because I can move concepts and beats around. For the first draft, just get something down. Don’t worry about it being perfect the first time around. That’s what rewrites are for!

Questions for fun:
If you had the power of time travel, is there anything you would go back and change? Why/why not?:
If I had the power to actually make big changes, I would try to take away all major historic suffering and hate, but unfortunately there are too many instances in history of such to just choose one.

What super-power would you choose?:
I’d love to read people’s minds. That’s the most powerful tool of all.

If you could have three wishes, what would they be?:
I’d wish for the ability to manifest anything I wanted with a snap of my fingers. With that, I wouldn’t need three! My biggest wish would be to experience samadhi bliss and self-realize.

Coffee, tea or wine?: Tea! I call it my life juice.

What is your favourite book? (aside from one of your own!):
A Stranger in a Strange Land or The Alchemist. I also love reading non-fiction self help style books!

Favourite genre and why?:
I love science fiction because of the imagination that goes into it. It’s a great genre to explore themes that we deal with everyday in a new environment

Favourite colour?: Red

Upcoming news and plans for the future?: I’m getting married next year so that’s exciting! I also plan to release my second book soon and am outlining several others.

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us!

Book Release - MIND: The Reckoning by @JennNixon #scifi #romance

Fan Favorite, Baldwin Bates, finally gets his own story and HEA in book three MIND: The Reckoning.  To celebrate the new release, books 1 & 2 are both on sale for the rest of the week! You can find all three books here: www.amazon.com/Jenn-Nixon/e/B002BLNBBQ MIND: The Beginning .99c, MIND: The Emergence $1.99

Baldwin Bates has only wanted one thing since joining MIND, to take care of his friends and keep them all safe. While the Meta-Alien Investigation and Neutralization Department is busy monitoring an emergence of human psychic and alien activity, Bates takes his first solo assignment searching for a woman who claims to see the future, only to botch it up and let her get away.
After helping to destroy an alien device called the Transcender, Lexa Quinn wakes from a two-week coma a very different person than she was before. While her abilities grow stronger, her feelings for Bates begin to interfere with the MIND team's mission, putting everyone at risk. Secrets from her past threaten the present and future, forcing Lexa to decide who she is and where she belongs.
When a powerful, ancient enemy lays claim to the Earth and brings his judgment upon the population, Bates, Lexa, and the entire MIND team must do whatever it takes to save the human race before the reckoning is complete.

Excerpt:
As Bates bypassed the crafters and artists, the scent of Asian BBQ wafted through the air. He grumbled along with his stomach and hoped a few of them stuck around so he could pick something up on his way out.
"How’s it going?" Dina Ranger asked via his earcomm, jolting him.
"Shit! Forgot I had this bloody thing in," he replied, taking a breath and shutting his eyes for a second.
"Have to get used to it if you want to be in the field...alone."
"Unlike your brother, I need some me time, Sherlock." This time, he chuckled when he felt her brush his mind with calming thoughts. "How’s Lexa? Any change?"
"No, nothing. Never changes. I...just don’t get it."
"Me either," he said with a sigh, quickly putting it out of his mind to maintain his focus. "I just got to the park. I’ll check in before I leave."
"Okay. And whatever has you so hungry bring some back. Talk to ya."
Shaking his head, Bates waited for the static of the comm to fade before pushing farther into the park, eyeing the tables and tents, but mostly their occupants, searching for a face. Miss Takashi had a pretty face, although older now, since the photo from the collective Meta-alien Investigation and Neutralization Department database was almost one hundred years old.
When he neared the end of the first row of vendor tents, he took in the sight of the city across the river, and then found the second and final row of vendors left to search.
He politely declined several offers to purchase various items like candles and potholders, wondering why his ‘blah face’—a term his new friend Kim called his usual stern façade—wasn’t working.
Toward the middle of the second row, Bates slowed, eyeing a colorful booth, shrouded in light purple curtains, and a sign that screamed for attention. When a face-painted toddler, followed by a frantic parent, came running out of the booth, he barely sidestepped out of the way. The parent offered Bates a weary shrug. He nodded politely and carried onward, finally seeing a sign for "Madam Takashi" two booths down.

Tuesday Teaser - Escapee by Edward Hoornaert #scifi #romance

Escapee
Science fiction romance by
Edward Hoornaert

Blurb

The African Queen in outer space

Catt Sayer just wants to survive.  The working-class fugitive delivers military supplies on her decrepit airship, but her hard-won livelihood vanishes when invaders overrun her harsh moon. Now an idealistic, upper-class officer wants her to risk her life on a hopeless voyage to attack enemy headquarters – manned by 10,000 soldiers.

Edward Hoornaert’s romantic space opera, Escapee, continues the saga of the Dukelsky family (begun in The Guardian Angel of Farflung Station).  If you like The African Queen and the thrill of underdogs finding love while battling a hostile environment, you’ll love Escapee.

Don’t let this rousing tale escape you.

================================================
Excerpt

The entire moon had fallen into enemy hands and this man wrote reports? Her opinion must’ve shown on her face, because his flinty expression slipped, revealing exhaustion, despair, and a plea for understanding.
“I know I’ll never be able to send them, but…” He ran a hand over his eyes, and the unfeeling martinet was back. “The reports are letters to my men’s families, explaining how they died at their posts, defending New Ontario’s interests.”
Catt opened her mouth. Closed it. Felt her face flame. The kitten meowed. The skoot flicked its tongue, spattering Catt with drool. Facing Dukelsky was like staring into a furnace. She lowered her gaze. “I didn’t know…”
“Yet you assumed the worst of me.”
Without thinking, she had assumed the submissive, hunched posture of a peasant being scolded by a patroon. Now, though, she straightened. Embarrassment warred with anger, yet she wouldn’t let him or any other patroon humble her, ever again. “Turnabout’s a bitch, eh?”
She expected him to ask what she meant. He didn’t, yet a narrowing of his eyes told her he’d made the connection to his cheap prostitute comment. Their eyes locked. She refused to back down first.
================================================

Bio
What kind of guy writes romance? A guy who married his high school sweetheart a week after graduation and still lives the HEA decades later. A guy who’s a certifiable Harlequin hero—he inspired Vicki Lewis Thompson’s Rita Award finalist Mr. Valentine, which is dedicated to him.

Ed started out writing contemporary romances for Silhouette Books, but these days he concentrates on science fiction romance. He’s been a teacher, principal, technical writer, salesman, janitor, and symphonic oboist. He and wife Judi live in Tucson, Arizona.
