Interview with Imogene Nix #sfr #sfrb #sfrnews #sfrbook

Please welcome author Imogene Nix to the blog! Hi, Imogene.

Please tell us a bit about yourself:
A mother of two, compulsive reader and bookstore owner. I live in regional Queensland, Australia with my husband, 2 daughters, dog, cats, guinea pigs and chooks. I also have a particular fondness for Vampires, Star Ship Captains and things that go bump in the night.

Tell us about Starburst:
Starburst represents the end of the struggle between humanity and the Ru’Edan.  In the end we know there can be only one victor and while we hope that it is the side of goodness and light... it’s never a foregone conclusion until we reach the end.
And of course Meredith and Chowd may or may not sort it out... <gee>

What inspired you to write this particular story?
Inspiration?  The fact is, the story could never be finished until I had a final scene for the bad guy.  And it always had to be something to do with his son, Chowd.  After Starline and Starfire, it just wasn’t finished.  If you know what I mean? Oh, yes - I know exactly what you mean. *eyes own WIP*

Which comes first for you – a character's looks, personality or name?
Name.  Always the name of the hero and heroine.

Any tips for aspiring authors?
Believe in yourself.  It’s great to have all the book learning, but until you believe you can do it, no one else will.

Questions for fun:
Which fictional universe would you like to live in and why?
Hmm I have to say the Utopian one of Star Trek really intrigues me... but then it might be a bit quiet... until there is an altercation with the Romulans or Borg or...

If you could have three wishes, what would they be?
To never have to work again – just time to write and create the worlds that are fighting to get out of my head.
To live sustainably – in my strawbale house
To be able to travel whenever and where ever I wanted... even if it was at the drop of a  hat.

Which fictional spacecraft/mythical creature/mode of transport/unusual pet would you like to own, and why?
I love the idea of instantaneous matter transmission – whether is be through time or space (a la “Beam em up Scotty!”) I think to me there seems to be less concern that you are going to end up in the wrong place or crashing... unless you look at what happens in Galaxy Quest (hmm... maybe I shouldn’t go there!)

Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, Butterbeer or Romulan ale?
While I’m sure the Gargle Blaster is a sight to be seen and Romulan Ale will have an almost immediate effect, I’m well... a squib.  Pain, morning afters etc don’t do it for me, so I guess it’s going to have to be the Butterbeer.

Coffee, tea or wine?
Wine.  Wet, Cold and White.  Closely followed by a good quality cappuccino.  What else could there be?  (p.s. my parents are tea drinkers... I never caught that gene!)

And to finish:
What is your favourite book? (aside from one of your own!)
JD Robb – Naked in Death.  I love the emotions conveyed within it.  It’s not a pretty tale, but it’s one I return to regularly.

Favourite genre and why?
Science Fiction – I like the ability to “boldly go” and be the first to try something new.

Favourite colour?
Green.  Emerald to be exact.

Upcoming news and plans for the future?
Between now and the end of July, I have 4 books releasing.  The Plan with Beachwalk, The Blood Bride and Blame The Wine with Total E-Bound and The Chocolate Affair with Secret Cravings as part of the Edible Delights Anthology.  Apart from that, I also have 3 pieces out under submission.  It’s keeping me busy.  I’ve also got 2 more novels and 2 novellas I need to finish and get into my editor by the end of the year.  It’s a busy schedule! Wow, you are busy!
Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us!

Blurb:
Meredith Gentry is a woman with a mission.  To decode everything found on the Alpha Star Colony.  Maybe, if she’s lucky, she might finally get closer to the one man who makes her burn.
Chowd Sturat Sur Banden is different.   He’s always known that and that the differences have kept him apart from everyone else.  Until now.
At the end game, will these differences keep Meredith and Chowd apart for good?  Will his own unwanted heritage tear them asunder forever?  And will the crew of the Elector finally prevail over Crick Sur Banden?
The Warriors of the Elector’s cataclysmic conclusion has arrived.

Excerpt:

“You deserve to be here. The work you have done with the Admiralty meant they would need your skills for this momentous event.”
She wrinkled her nose. They both turned back to view the gaily lit station, growing larger while ships moved around it in a dance, darting here and there.
He could still see the faint bruising on her skin, and once more he fought down the sensation of fury that scalded him inside.
“So once we get there, what should we expect?”
For a moment, he didn’t answer. What is there to say? “I don’t know, Meredith.” I can only act honestly with her. “I imagine that we will meet the senators, find our apartments, and then conduct a meeting with the ambassador.” Since they hadn’t managed a team meeting after Meredith had freed herself from her abductor, this meeting would be way overdue.
“Okay. Are we likely to meet with…the same attitudes again?”
His heart plummeted at the quiet words. Truly, he didn’t know for sure, but could guess that the patriarchal society wouldn’t have evolved that much, unless the high class circles demanded it. “I don’t know, but we will take steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again. I have also been informed that Jod Svan’Er will remain with us, together with some of his most loyal guards.”
Meredith remained leery of Jod Svan’Er, but in the last few days, he had personally handpicked guards for the women to augment their stretched security resources.
“Okay. I guess we will have to wait until we dock. I packed up all our things, so they are ready for when we transfer.”
“Excellent. Thank you, Meredith.” He wondered if she would ask what would happen to her assailant. She had dodged any discussion regarding the incident up until now, which worried him. She surely needed to know in order to move on. If Elara had been here, he would have sought her advice, but they were thousands of miles away and out of radio contact.
She turned away from him, looking toward the front screen, her fingers still entwined in his as they drew closer to the station. Lights winked and glittered against the inky blackness, the bridge of the ship almost silent. It was easy to lose oneself in the fantasy of the silence of space.
