Blurb:
A summer party is the last place Lydia Flowers wants to be. Beer pong? Stupid, foot-wrecking shoes? Random hookups? No thanks. Lydia would rather be in her cleats practicing her bat handling skills.

Enter Abe Fischer, the Nashville Teen Idol superstar. He’s a lip-syncing party animal with a short fuse; or at least that’s what the tabloids say. Except, Abe turns out to be nothing like the guy Lydia’s read about online. He’s sweet, and the way he talks to his horse…sigh.

Then life throws Lydia and Abe a curveball. They are wrongfully arrested for destruction of property. Their choices? Either work on the Fischer Farm for the summer earning nothing more than blisters and a sunburn, or have the arrest go on their records, which would ruin Lydia’s shot at a softball scholarship. It’s a no-brainer. Lydia picks up a pitchfork, pulls out the SPF 40, and prepares for the worst two months of her life.

When the press gets wind of a big secret Abe’s family has been keeping, things become even more complicated. Now Lydia has another choice to make: stick around for Abe’s messed-up life in the spotlight, or go for the scholarship of her dreams.

Read Only Wednesday - The Colchester IDS by Charlotte Deallie #scifi

Read Only Wednesday is when I talk about a book I've just read, am about to read or have added to my TBR pile. This week it's The Colchester IDS by Charlotte Deallie.

I was directed to this book by a friend because I actually live in Colchester, and I've been talking a lot about writing an urban fantasy set in my home town. Normally I don't pick up contemporary Earth scifi - I tend to find it dull. I want spaceships and/or aliens, or lots of cool tech. But this is free, and one of the reviews on the UK Amazon site said it was science fiction with a romance. Scifi romance set in my home town? I'm curious, especially as the author doesn't live here. So we shall see. I plan another reading binge over the Christmas holidays when I'll be closing my social media for about three weeks, so hopefully I'll get to it then.

Blurb:
‘The Colchester IDs’
by Charlotte De'allie. A darkly comic tale of murderous ID theft in a small British town. Young journalist Emily Wakefield is drawn into a nightmare conspiracy involving avatars, 3D technology and a mysterious cell phone company with a terrifying ambition. Read chapter one here for free.

Emily Wakefield led what most people would consider a normal life; an every day kind of life. She drove her little car to work from Monday to Friday on a local newspaper. She lived by herself. She owned a cat. She didn’t get enough exercise. The one element missing from her existence was companionship; a partner to make life complete.

Paul Ramdin worked at the local gym. His was a life full of routine administration and personal training. He shared a flat with his sister. They rowed over who should cook dinner and who did the washing up but generally they got on.

Phone Utria - a brand new mobile communications business, hungry for international success with ambitions of rapid ascent up the corporate ladder. Utria sprang up from nowhere; a high tech futuristic company, anything but ordinary; anything but routine. Customers came flocking to sign up for bargain phone contracts, free gifts and to see RITA, the first Relative Interactive Team Avatar in existence. A perfect customer services hologram and mascot to Phone Utria, she had to be seen to be believed.

Together, Emily and Paul are helplessly and unknowingly drawn into a terrifying series of events, leading to a climax which strikes at the heart of the human race’s addiction to the computer age and artificial intelligence; an addiction which could threaten mankind’s very existence.

Print - 400 pages.

Meet the #Author Monday - Ian Smith #debut #contemporary #romance @ians2005

Please tell us a bit about yourself:

I'm a professional scientist and live in the south-west of England with my wife, our two horses, two dogs, and three guinea pigs. We’d like to keep chickens, too, but it might be a bit tricky in a small urban garden with two hyperactive terriers

My education was obviously science-based. I've always been a keen reader - thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, horror, a few classics, and even some romances. But I'll admit not much of it was "literature".

I've written way too many scientific papers and technical reports, and even a couple of dissertations. I wanted to do something different and started writing general interest factual articles and giving public talks, which are always interesting.

I put off writing fiction for years, convinced I “couldn’t do dialogue”, but feedback from my critiquing group convinced me I could. Having four short stories published in anthologies was a confidence booster, and now I’ve written a whole book, all on my own!

Tell us about Knights Errant:

The story in a nutshell is that Paul, still getting over his wife’s death, is approached by two women looking for a jousting team to work on a TV show. The women are best friends, and he’s attracted to both of them. And they’re both attracted to him. He’s a nice guy and doesn’t want to damage their friendship, but he’d like to have a relationship with one of them. The women don’t make things easy for him, and lead him well beyond his comfort zone.

In terms of the usual genres, it’s a romance with some erotic scenes. I hope my readers will just think of it as an entertaining story.

What inspired you to write this particular story?:

Knights Errant developed from an idea I first wrote as a 200-word piece of flash fiction and the characters stayed in my mind. A number of ideas merged in my imagination and the story grew from these. I’ve seen a few jousting displays and even spent a day being taught the basics, real-life experience which was useful as well as fun.

Which comes first for you – a character's looks, personality or name?:

That’s a good question, and I honestly don’t know. The characters seem to form themselves as the story settles in my imagination and they tell me what they’re like. I typically settle on their names quite quickly.

Any tips for aspiring authors?:

Find a constructive critiquing group which works for you, participate as much as you can and pay attention to their comments on your work. Or find a number of other aspiring writers and form your own critiquing group.

By all means attend creative writing workshops if you like the sound of them. I’ve been to a few which were fun, but didn’t really help me.

When you find a book you really enjoy, read it again to figure out how the author has written it and try to adapt some of these things in your own work.

What super-power would you choose?:

Ability to read minds when I chose to, and influence other’s thoughts and feelings

Which fictional spacecraft/mythical creature/mode of transport/unusual pet (delete as applicable) would you like to own, and why?:

I’d love to have a werewolf as a good friend, simply because it’d be totally amazing.

Your weapon/instrument/gadget of choice?:

An old-fashioned English longbow or a traditional Mongol horsebow.

Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, Butterbeer or Romulan ale?:

Who needs neurons? Gargle me, gargle me...

Coffee, tea or wine?:

Yes please. Black without sugar, white with one sugar, and red.

What is your favourite book? (aside from one of your own!):

Tough one... Two really. Dracula, for the great story and the fascinating way of telling it. Len Deighton’s “The Ipcress File”, which combines a great story with a well-paced, light-touch storytelling style.

Favourite genre and why?:

No specific genre. I find I enjoy stories from different genres, and some which would be hard to describe with any single label.

Upcoming news and plans for the future?:

Well on the way through book 2 in the series, which carries the story on. I’ve solid ideas for four more with the same characters, and for a short spin-off series for two characters I’ll introduce in the second book. And there are ideas for two other series rattling around in my head and sketched out to some extent.

I’m very grateful for having a hyperactive muse... If only I had the free time to work on all these ideas

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to us!

Blurb

Lonely widower Paul knows he's ready to move on and start a new relationship, but doesn't expect to meet two attractive and interesting women at the same time. They want to recruit his jousting display team to feature in a TV show.

Becky and Hayley are best friends, as different as chalk and cheese, and both clearly fancy Paul. A decent guy at heart, he hopes to win one without harming their friendship. But the women don't make it any easier when they turn up the heat and leave him wondering what's going on.

A fantastic prize is within his reach. He just has to overcome his deepest fears, self-doubts, and fragile self-confidence. And be Hayley's leading man in the TV show she hopes will make her name. So no pressure. Just take a deep breath and let these two intriguing women lead him way outside his comfort zone.

Going ZIPLESS! Guest post by @DianeDooley #rocker #romance #giveaway

Hiya, everyone! Diane Dooley here to tell you a little about my latest release.

Despite the several careers I’ve already had and despite being in my forties, what I really, really want to be when I grow up is a rock star. It may be a little too late for me, but being that one of my careers is ‘writer,’ I have the privilege of being able to live vicariously through my characters.

The result of my dashed dreams of rockstarism is ZIPLESS, a rock ‘n roll romance--Scottish style.

Wanna meet some of the crew?

Lou: is the manager. More comfortable in Doc Martens than stiletto heels, she’s a bossy, controlling, loving, hard-working, ambitious little Scots-Italian from Glasgow. She named the band Guyville, much to the horror of the guys, who think that makes them sound like a boy band. She also makes them perform the songs she writes. They’re still horribly traumatized from their lone performance of ‘The Bloody Rag,’ Lou’s anguished condemnation of period pain and the price of tampons. Still, they can’t help but love her.

Paolo: is the pretty boy lead guitarist and Lou’s adored baby brother. He fell in love with a little Aussie groupie called Banshee after the Scunthorpe gig and he hasn’t been the same since. A little Goth Yoko Ono in black eye makeup, she insists on accompanying the band on their trip to New York City, where they’ve been booked for a performance on a hugely influential network TV show. Her influence on Paolo is putting stress on the band.

Bluto: is a big lovable drunken lug of a man and the band’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist. It’s his first time out of the UK and he’s gone and fallen head over heels in love with all of New York City’s pretty ladies. Yes, every single one of them.  He’s the peacemaker in the band, and with his attention distracted by all the American beauty on display, things are starting to fall apart.

Zippy: is formerly known as Crash Burns, flamboyant lead guitarist of seminal L.A. glampunk band, Snakebite. They disbanded years ago and, unrecognizable without his trademark makeup and leather thong, Lou taps the tattooed aging hipster for a stress-relieving one night stand. Before they know it, they’re writing impassioned songs about each other, Lou can’t stop thinking about him, and the Zipster decides he ain’t any woman’s one night stand.

There’s also the reggae-obsessed bassist, Alasdair, master of the incredible sulk, and the perennially intoxicated drummer, Chiz, whose love of women in uniforms might prove to be his undoing. Each will meet very different fates in New York City.

Will Lou be able to pull it all together and get the band ready for their shot at the bigtime? Will she ever tell Zippy her real name? Will Banshee steal Paolo from the band? Just how much do Glaswegian rockers drink, anyway? The answer to these questions and more are in ZIPLESS,  a raunchy, liquored-up comedy of errors.

I’m giving away an e-copy to one of Pippa’s readers. To enter, just tell me the name of your favorite band.

Thanks for having me Pippa!

Guest #Interview with the hilarious Liza O'Connor #romance #humor #free #ebooks #giveaway

Last Chance
To grab

This is the funniest book I’ve ever written. And today is your last chance to download it at the exceptionally inexpensive cost of FREE.

Most of my reviewers declare it hysterically funny and an easy read, so try it out and then if you love it, a week from now you can snare book 2, Oh Stupid Heart, for 99 cents on Jan 29th.

Then you can grab Book 3, Coming to Reason, any time after Feb 3rd. (That’s when it releases.)

What this means mathematically, is that you get the three books at a 58% discount from regular price which returns in Feb 1.  But only if you grab Worst Week Ever today and Oh Stupid Heart on Jan 29th.

Now, I’ll take questions from the audience.
Liza: You, the lady in big hat.

Old Matron: I’ve heard these books are over the top. I don’t approve of such things.
Liza: Which is no doubt why you can’t smile. But honestly, I don’t personally think the things that go on in this book are over the top. That would imply they could never happen in real-life and at least in my real life, crazier stuff than this goes on all the time. I’m telling you, ma’am, if you’d wear a normal size hat, you would see a great deal of crazy stuff occurring on a regular basis around you.
Old Matron: Why do you think I wear this hat? I don’t approve of ‘stuff’ going on.
Liza: Next Question. Adorable tow-head kid up front.

Tow-head: Would you make a movie about the book? I don’t read many words yet.
Liza: Give it time. No wait, when you get older, you’ll still want the movie version because you’ll have a girl to cuddle in dark with.
Tow head: ewwwwww! Girls have couties.
Liza: I’ll let your mom know. Expect a lecture.
But in the meantime, 3,2,1, roll tape:
Liza: Okay last question. Old Guy in the back.
Old Guy: Will this week never end? I’m getting really tired.
Liza: Eventually, it will, but it takes a whole book to do it. So remove your hats, learn to read, and wake up.
This is the last day to get Worst Week Ever for free!
Last question. Lady in the middle.
Guy: I’m a guy, jerk.
Liza: Sorry, the hair mesmerized me. What’s your question?
Guy: I’ve already read Worst Week Ever. Any chance you’ve got a deal on Oh Stupid Heart?
Liza: Yes, but it’s next week: Jan 29th Oh Stupid Heart can be bought for 99 cents during a countdown. Then each day after, the price increases by a dollar, until it returns to its regular price.
Guy: $3.99 is still a great price.
Liza: Yes, it is. I’m impressed you know that. There must be a brain under that hair.
Guy: Yeah, and you’re still a jerk.
Liza: Well, that’s all the questions I have time for.

And don’t forget to enter to win Coming to Reason’s Blog Tour Prize of $50
We could all use $50 bucks. Am I right or am I right? Liza is RIGHT Finally!

Meet the #Author Monday - JM Witt

Please tell us a bit about yourself:  Well, let’s see.  I’m 35, mom to 4 kids ages 1yr, 3.5yr old twins, and a 6yr old!  Born and raised in Michigan.  My love of reading and writing began with Shakespeare in middle school and high school.  I’ve wanted to write smut, I’m sorry, romance, since I was a teenager.  I figured after baby #4, who is quite possibly the spawn of Christian Grey, that there was no time like the present!!!

Tell us about Letting Go:  Letting Go is about a young woman, Cassidy, who thinks all her secrets are behind her.  But when she meets James, when she’s attached to someone else, and then suffers another tragedy, the last thing on her mind is love…until James comes walking back into her life.  She can’t resist the attraction to him and the feeling is mutual.  James knows he wants her, but his heart and head keep warring with one another.  James has his own tragedy looming overhead when Cassidy’s secrets are laid out for all to see.  James has never let anyone break down his barriers and the same can be said about Cassidy.  Together they’ll battle their own demons, uncover unknown truths, discover sexual appetites not yet realized, and push each other away because they’re too afraid to love.

What inspired you to write this particular story?:  Wow.  I’m not really sure ‘what’ inspired it.  I decided I was going to start writing and my imagination took over.  I started writing a couple different scenes and scenarios and then filled in the gaps!  I love a little bdsm, SOA, music and lots of sex in my books.  What can I say!?  :-D

Which comes first for you – a character's looks, personality or name?:  Hmm.  A little of both.  I knew I wanted James to be an Alpha, tall and built, but a genuinely good guy!!  Cassidy was personality first.  I wanted her to be fiery, sarcastic, funny, insecure, and a little klutzy!!

Any tips for aspiring authors?: Just do it!  Start with an outline of who and what your characters are and just start writing!!!  If I can do it with 4 kids so can you!!!  Oh and check that you’re format is correct and save often!
Questions for fun: (please choose five to answer)
If you had the power of time travel, is there anything you would go back and change? Why/why not?:  Hmmm.  I’ve always been fascinated with Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn and that entire dynasty.  I would love to go back and discover the truth of things.

What super-power would you choose?:  That’s a tough toss-up between flying and invisibility!!!

If you could have three wishes, what would they be?:  Can I be selfish?!  I would love to travel the world with my husband and kids.  World peace.  A money tree!!

Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, Butterbeer or Romulan ale?:  Butterbeer!

Coffee, tea or wine?:  Don’t like tea, wine occasionally, so COFFEE!!!

And to finish:
What is your favorite book? (aside from one of your own!):  I can’t pick one, I just can’t.  Hamlet, Dracula and Pride & Prejudice!

Favorite genre and why?:  Love Romance of any kind; paranormal, erotica, suspense, love love love it!

Favorite colour?: Blue!

Upcoming news and plans for the future?:  I’ve started Vol. 2 in the Anchored Hearts collection.  I hope to have it out in the Spring with Vol. 3 close behind!

Thanks so much for visiting us!

Excerpt
I slowly came to before the sun made its arrival.  Slowly, everything from the night before came back to me.  His arm was around me as he cradled me to his chest.  The warmth was almost insufferable.  I turned my head to find he was dead asleep.  I was suddenly overcome with panic and decided I had to get out of there.  I crept out of the hold of his stellar body and got off the bed with ease.  I didn’t want to risk waking him so I just grabbed my dress and shoes and made my way out of his room and down the stairs.  I found my purse on the kitchen island and headed for the door.
“Cassidy!”
I nearly screamed I was so startled.  I rushed to the door, opened it and tip toed thru it just for it to slam shut.  I ran full force down the hall in nothing but his t-shirt with my arms full of my dress, shoes and purse.  I fumbled with my key and finally got into my room.  My door closed and I swore I heard another, “Cassidy!” booming down the hall.
“Shit, shit, shit.”  Why was I running from him?
I threw my dress and shoes to the floor and sank down the door.  My knees were pulled to my chest while I rested my head on them and then I felt my door shake like there was a gorilla pounding on it.  Bang, bang, bang!  My entire body vibrated against the force of him hitting the door.
“Cassidy, I know you’re in there.  Please open up.”
I pushed myself up the door and sighed.  I didn’t know what to say to him.  “Go away!”
“Cassidy Charles open this door.  You can’t run from me forever.”
“Yes I can!”  This was ridiculous.  We were acting like twelve year olds.
“Don’t make me call hotel security!  You let me in or I’ll let myself in.”
He wouldn’t dare, would he?  I decided to face him.  I opened the door yelling at him, “You wouldn’t dare!”
He was on me instantly.  I didn’t even have a moment to take in his appearance.  His arms were around my back as he lifted me off the floor.  He set me on the kitchen island.
“Why did you leave?  You scared me.”  He was holding my face in his hands.  “Cassidy, look at me.  You can’t deny the attraction between us.  It was there all those months ago and it’s still here.”
There was so much emotion surrounding my thoughts and feelings for him.  I was attracted to him like a fish to water the first time I saw him and still was.  Then it all went to shit in one night.  I looked in his eyes and saw that they were full of concern.
“I’m scared of what I feel when I’m around you.  You scare the hell out of me.”  He looked stricken and dropped his hands from my face.  “Not afraid of you, afraid of this,” I waved my hand between us.  “I’ve never been so drawn to someone.  You left me that horrible night without a word.  I didn’t know what to think.  Then you were arrested and I couldn’t process it.”
He pulled me to him and started talking into my hair.  “Baby, I didn’t leave you that night.  I never wanted to leave you.  I came back with our coffee and I saw you with a cop.  He was holding you and I got the wrong impression.”
“Wait, what?!  Calvin, you thought I was with…”  Now I was crying and laughing at the same time.  “Calvin is my brother.”  I pushed away from him just enough to look at him.
He wiped my tears and said, “I know, I found out a few days later when they were questioning me.”  He must have felt me stiffen.  “Cassidy, the charges were dropped.  You know that right?”  I nodded my answer and he embraced me again.  “I promise you I had nothing to do with what happened that night.”
“I spent months trying to hate you so I could get over you, but I couldn’t and I never even had you.”
“Baby, you had me, you have me still.  Last night was just confirmation Cassidy.”

THIS TIME NEXT YEAR - Guest Post & #giveaway by Cate Peace

Tandy's defense of setting up Moira with 1Night Stand; or, What are Best Friends For (if not for going behind your back and setting you up with a date)?

Best friends have to wear a lot of hats—the party hat for those awesome times, the commiseration hat when things don’t go as planned (it looks like one of those birdcage veil things), the spiked helmet (that matches the armor) for when people mess with our loved ones. Sometimes, though, we have to put on the devil horns.

That happens to be my favorite hat.

I may have been employing some devil horns when I signed my best friend Moira up with 1Night Stand. I’d heard about it from a mutual friend, who’d used the service and found the perfect person for her. Did I think Madame Eve would set Moira up with the person she belonged with? Yes. Did I think that person would be a vampire? Never crossed my mind.
However, I did my research before I filled in any blank fields. I asked Alene a hundred questions. I read testimonials from the site. I did everything I could think of because that’s what best friends do. Besides, with as much as she’s been through, Moira deserved something sure. I got tired of watching her fade into the background and being the only one who knew how fantastic she is. Even though I had to go behind her back to do it, it needed to be done.
I knew she’d forgive me eventually. I mean, Kiernan’s pretty hot. For a vampire.
Besides, happy endings are hard to come by in this world. And who deserves one more than your best friend?

Thanks, Cate and Tandy! And isn't that a gorgeous cover?

Blurb

Vampire Kiernan Shaw has never forgotten the night twenty years ago when he’d been forced to stand by while another vampire killed a six-year-old girl’s parents in front of her. He’s spent the better part of the last two decades watching over her, protecting her and hoping for an opportunity to make amends one day.

Ever since surviving the vampire attack that killed her parents, Moira Curran has dealt with the resulting nightmares and abandonment issues the only way she could—by throwing herself into her biochemistry career, preferring a life of a hermit in her lab to facing the reality of her lonely life.

Madame Eve brings them back together for one fateful night. An immediate bond of sizzling chemistry and respect forms, but can it heal her fears and his guilt?

Author Bio

Catherine Peace has been telling stories for as long as she could remember. She often blames two things for her forays into speculative fiction—Syfy (when it was SciFi) channel Sundays with her dad and The Island of Dr. Moreau by HG Wells. She graduated in 2008 from Northern Kentucky University with a degree in English and is still chasing the dream of being super rich and famous, mostly so she can sit around in her PJs all day and write stories. When not being a slave to the people in her head, she’s a slave to two adorable dogs.
