Hello! *waves* Welcome to another #sffsat snippet and thanks for dropping by. This week we have the cue word 'shades'. Luckily for me, this is one of my favourite words so it was easy to find a snippet to share. This one is taken from Keir's Fall, the as yet unpublished sequel to Keir.

Keir paused and his breath caught as the dappled light touched the woman sprawled across the bed under a woven blanket in shades of blue. Deep in sleep, tousled red hair half-covered her face, one arm folded across her stomach and the other laid palm upward on the pillow beside her head. The elfin face was childlike, her skin pale gold with freckles scattered over her small nose.
Keir gazed at her for an instant, and his chest tightened. Each day spent with Quin in the idyll of Kasha-Asor was a blessing. All the more so because he had once believed her dead by his own actions.
On impulse, he lifted the netting aside, one hand outstretched, but as his shadow passed over her, her gray eyes snapped open. In a flurry of blankets she leaped from the bed and knocked him to the floor, landing on top of him. Pain speared through his body as she straddled him and pinned down his hands.
“Never,” she told him in a low growl, “ever, try to sneak up on me in bed!”

Hope you enjoyed that. Please stop by the other authors participating in Science Fiction Fantasy by clicking the link below. :)

  1. Hehe. She doesn't give him much leeway, does she?

    1. Nope. But he should know better. They've both learned to sleep with one eye open. :P

  2. Wasn't expecting that. But then again, neither was he...

  3. Keir should really know better by now. Quin isn't your typical female!
