#Science #Fiction #Fantasy Saturday #61

Hello! *waves* Welcome to another #sffsat snippet and thanks for all the lovely comments last week. I'm staying with my young hero today, and things just keep on getting worse for poor Gethyon. Surely something good has got to happen?!

An Underway opened beneath his feet and he charged into it, almost tumbling down the gentle slope in his haste and confusion. He knocked into someone who shoved back with a cry of protest, which sent him crashing down the last stretch to sprawl across the cold marble with a grunt. Hard stone smacked the side of his face and added stars to the general blurriness of his sight and a sharp pain across his skull.
Groaning, he forced himself upright and staggered to his feet, weaving unsteadily through the Underway. The soft glow of lights arching in strips around the inside of the tunnel seemed to stretch on endlessly and then shifted in a sickening pattern as he tried to concentrate.
It was too much. He fell against the side wall and began to slither down the cool stone surface until he sat slumped on the floor. People streamed past him and stepped over his outstretched legs with little more than a pause to acknowledge his existence. Gethyon watched them numbly, his vision swimming in and out. How had it come to this?

He just can't get a break! Want to know more? Click on the EXCERPT under the book cover in the right hand sidebar, or follow the link to Amazon and read the opening pages. Otherwise, click on the banner below to read more snippets by more excellent authors.

  3. I hope he's old enough to have a drink--sounds like he'll need one by the end of the day, poor kid.

  4. Yep, that happens after a rough night with your pals, getting blitzed on those exotic cocktails and...oh, wait...he's not pie-eyed drunk. Hah! Great scene, and yes, poor Gethyon. I'm anxious to get to read this in my TBR pile up...soooon!

  7. Poor Gethyon! How you torture the lad so! I loved this scene and really thought your world-building here was fantastic. The descriptions of the underway were absolutely brilliant. You took him right to the edge and then shoved him off!

    Great writing!

  8. It seems to me that characters are made all the more interesting, and relatable when they go through hell. The details in this make it very easy to see. I felt a little disoriented myself. Great descriptions.

  9. Wow! Just...wow! From your descriptions alone, I don't want to go through what he just did. Great job of conveying his experience.

  12. Talk about throwing us right into the fire along with him. You've certainly drawn us into his predicament along side him - now maybe we get to find out how he came to be in the "fine mess".
