You Choose the Prize

Good morning lovely people! With my next book coming out in June, I've been browsing around looking at pretty things for me to giveaway as a prize to celebrate the release of my YA scifi novel Gethyon. I love shiny things, and while I'd rather keep them for myself (sorry) I also like to give pressies to other people. And I struck lucky. I found what I think is the perfect thing. Unfortunately, I then found two more. So, I decided the best way to choose was to let you all pick what you'd like to win. Below are the three options, and the poll where you can vote, but if you'd like to let me know why you chose a particular one in the hope of swaying me, or if you have other suggestions, please leave me a comment.

Let me explain what all the fuss is about. In Gethyon, my young hero's prized possession is a device called a CHI - Crystalline Holographic Imager. It's a large, hexagonal clear crystal capable of projecting holographic panoramas. In Gethyon's case, it's an astronomical display, which leads him into trouble. But I digress... Here are the pretties, and the reasons I've chosen each.

Option One - Clear

For option one I give you - the CHI! Well, not a real one obviously, but this is exactly how I saw the device in my head, and I couldn't believe my luck when I found these. But maybe a clear one is a bit dull? It's certainly not going to produce all the beautiful and terrible images Gethyon sees in the real thing, but catch the light and it'll sparkle brighter than a Twilight vampire.

Option Two - Green

 Now, as you may have noticed from the cover image for Gethyon at the top of this post, green features quite heavily in the artwork. Isn't that nova background just gorgeous?! My young hero has green eyes too. So maybe the CHI crystal in glorious green? It's not emerald, I'm sorry to say, but it is a pretty colour. Do you sense a certain favoritism here?

Option Three - Black

 Lastly, there's this one. Looks a bit menacing, right? The villain of this piece is a dark, amorphous entity called the Siah-dhu - cue dramatic music along the lines of Darth Vader's Imperial March or something. So a black crystal would symbolize that very nicely. Or maybe not? I just can't decide!

So those are my three choices which I must decide between. Of course, I'd lurve to buy all three and give them away, but alas! I can't afford it. I have to have some pennies left to buy cookies, coffee, and to pay my therapist. However, there will be other goodies to go with the giveaway in June when I begin my tour for Gethyon, so I hope you'll come back then and see which option won. Because I'm going to keep the results a secret until then, shhhhh!

Announcements - 20/2/2013

Firstly, I have a winner to announce. Liese2 got the Amazon gift card I offered as my prize for the Celebrating Saint Valentine Blog Hop. Congrats!

Secondly, I received news on Monday that my scifi romance short story has been accepted into the Tales from the SFR Brigade anthology. Another yay! I'm stoked, especially as I love the two characters in it so much I'm currently writing a sequel that may make novel length. Huge congrats to everyone else who made it into the anthology - I know it's going to be stellar! Also a massive thank you to the editorial team for all their hard work in making this happen.

A Contest Win for Keir!

Yesterday I received notification that Keir had come second in the You Gotta Read Reviews Cover Contest. Woo hoo! Considering the competition, I'm thrilled! Of course, the real credit has to go to Renee Rocco, cover designer and the owner of Lyrical Press Inc who published my book. New Year's Blog Hop - Something to Celebrate with

Although it may be a little late in the day to celebrate the arrival of the New Year - some of you may even be recovering from it - I thought I'd share a fruity, fizzy cocktail you can continue toasting the New Year with, or save for your next celebration. Let me introduce the Champagne Diva!

Champagne Diva

Take three strawberries, 1fl oz of strawberry vodka, 1 tbsp lime juice, 2 tsp sugar, fresh mint leaves, 1/2 glass of chilled champagne and a mint sprig for decoration. Place everything except the decoration and the champagne into a cocktail shaker with a handful of ice and shake hard. Strain into the champagne and garnish with the mint. Simple!

Angels vs Demons Blog Hop - The Blue Demon of Adalucien

Welcome to my stop on the Angels vs Demons Blog Hop! I want to introduce you to my demon - Keir - and tell you how he earned his nickname. I think you'll love him. :)

A demon is a supernatural, often malevolent being. An unclean spirit. A force of evil that would possess humans beings and drive them to terrible acts.
Or so early Christianity would have us believe. The Ancient Greek word daimōn means spirit, without any of the dark associations. My demon in Keir is human - a child with human parents. But his discoloured skin shocks the medieval-level society into which he is born. Without the knowledge to explain his condition, they revert to superstitious reasons. His own people condemn him as a demon for nothing more than his appearance:

His bare torso was the rich blue of an evening sky, the long, unkempt hair a knot of black curls tangled at the nape of his neck. Deep black tattoos, resembling some form of runic lettering, were carved into every inch of his skin.
“See, girl? That is the Blue Demon, a curse on the city of Adalucien and friend to nae living soul.” The old man shook his head and sighed, as if under a dreadful burden. Women hid their children’s eyes or made mystical gestures against the creature that had entered their grounds. 
A terrible fear and anger rose in Quin, not for herself but for Keir, helpless and half-naked in the midst of a hostile gathering. No words could rescue him from this. She saw the knife lift for another strike and clawed at the man who held her, shrieking urgently for Keir.

What becomes of my demon? You'll have to read the book to find that out. ;-)
